About the Author
Kay Kerr is an artist, acrylic painting instructor, filmmaker, and a Certified Theraputic Recreation Specialist who was a 2014 and 2015 Woman of the Year nominee at the Hampton, Va., Veteran Affairs Medical Center. She initiated and implements the first hospital groundwork Equine Therapy Program for PTSD veterans, alongside Dr. Kathleen Decker with written modules and Steve Edwards Owner/Operator of Gwaltney Frontier Farm in Smithfield, Va. Rescued Corolla Spanish Mustangs are used in this program to help heal our nation's veterans. Kay was awarded the "I Care of Excellence Award " at the Hampton VA Hospital in November 2016 for her work ethics and PTSD Equine Therapy Program.
Kay owns a mustang and is an avid equestrienne. Her favorite ride is in snowfall when horses exhale smoke. She studied art at VA. Wesleyan College under the famous Newport News, Va., artist Barclay Sheaks and has had numerous art students win local/national awards. Kay and her student artists from Gwaltney Frontier Farm have donated artwork to sell in the Corolla Wild Horse Fund gift shop to benefit the horses.
Kay has had some poetry published, but this is her first children's book of many more to come. She is passionate about continuing to see the Corolla Mustangs run and live free. She hopes to one day retire in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
